Standing Seam Roof Cladding
Screwless, watertight and long-life roofs with Kalzip aluminium standing seam systems.
About the system
A standing seam roof is a metal roof system in which the panels are joined only by folding and locking their upstands together, without screws or rivets. Because there is no penetration in the waterproofing plane, watertightness is far higher than on conventional trapezoidal sheet roofs; and since a panel can run in one piece from ridge to eaves, there are no transverse joints either.
The system starts with the selection of the trapezoidal sheet profile and thickness according to the spacing and loading of the steel purlins in the project. Once the trapezoidal deck is mechanically fixed, a vapour control membrane is laid over it, followed by thermal pads and clips. Thermal insulation of the thickness required by the project is laid and mechanically fixed, then the standing seam panels are seated on the clips and the seams are closed with a seaming machine, producing a penetration-free surface across the roof.
The clip connection allows the panel to move longitudinally with thermal expansion, so long-span terminal and hangar roofs do not suffer from stress build-up or deformation. As panels can be roll-formed on site with a mobile line, curved, tapered and free-form roof geometries can also be covered with single-piece panels.
Davtek is the Türkiye territory agency and official installer for Kalzip aluminium standing seam systems. Detailing, wind uplift verification, panel production and installation are handled by a single team, so responsibility for material and workmanship is never split.
Applications
- Airport terminal buildings and aircraft hangars
- Stadium and indoor arena stand roofs
- Bus terminals, railway stations and metro structures
- Hospital campuses, congress and exhibition centres
- Logistics warehouses, production plants and industrial buildings
- Curved or free-form architectural roofs and metal facades
Installation process
- 01
System and profile selection
Roof pitch, purlin spacing, snow and wind loads and the corrosion class of the location are reviewed; the panel profile, panel width and sheet thickness are determined.
- 02
Substructure and trapezoidal deck
Purlin levels and alignment are checked, the trapezoidal deck is mechanically fixed and the roof surface is prepared for installation.
- 03
Vapour control layer and insulation
A vapour control membrane is laid over the deck, thermal pads and clips are set out, and insulation of the specified thickness is laid and mechanically fixed.
- 04
Panel production and laying
Panels are roll-formed in one piece on the site line or in the factory, lifted onto the roof by crane or ramp and laid, aligned on the clips.
- 05
Seaming and detailing
Seams are closed with the seaming machine; ridge, eaves, valley, penetration and expansion details are completed, together with snow guards, walkways and lifeline components.
- 06
Inspection and handover
Seam continuity, fixing counts and detail junctions are inspected, a water test is carried out and the roof is handed over with inspection records.

What is the difference between a standing seam roof and a trapezoidal sheet roof?
On a trapezoidal roof the sheets are fixed with screws that pass through the weathering plane, and every screw is a potential leak and corrosion point. On a standing seam roof the panel engages a clip underneath and is folded and locked to the adjacent panel, so the weathering plane stays unpenetrated. The clip also allows thermal movement, so no stress builds up in long panels.
Can it be applied on curved roofs?
Yes. Because panels can be roll-formed to the required length on the site line and curved when needed, barrel-vault, tapered and free-form roofs can be covered without transverse joints. Panel width and curvature radius are calculated in advance for the given geometry.
Can it be installed over an existing roof?
In most cases yes. After the condition and load capacity of the existing structure are assessed, a standing seam roof can be installed over the existing envelope with a suitable sub-frame and insulation build-up. This allows the refurbishment to be carried out without shutting the facility down.
